While Cobb County Schools are out, this blog will be your source for musical activities, assignments, and links.

All assignments will be posted on this blog. All necessary resources will be included or linked from the post. Any assessments will be done using Microsoft forms and should be able to be completed from any internet enabled device.

Listed below are a variety of free resources and games.

  • Chrome Music Laboffers 13 different ways to make and/or experiment with music and sound science.   
  • Appropriate for K-5!   
 
  • The most fun way ever to make music ostinatos!! An ostinato is simply a repeating rhythm or melodic pattern. Typically, an ostinato underlies the main melody, like the pat-pat-clap part to Queen’sWe Will Rock You. 
  • Appropriate for K-5! 
  • The first four versions (Alpha, Little Miss, Sunrise, & The Love) are ALL free andweb-based.  The newest three versions are paid content via web or app.  HAVE FUN!!! 
 
  • Classics for Kids offers a plethora of information about composers, classical compositions, orchestral instruments, and student composition activities and games.   
  • Most appropriate for 2-5 
 
  • GIA Music is a great place to go for free downloadable SONGTALES (sung stories).   
  • To access these, click the link above and then typeSONGTALE in the search box.  Once your child has chosen a title, click on it and then scroll down until you see:FREE MP3 Download - Full Performance.Now you can download and listen to these wonderful sung stories!

  • JULIE’S GREENROOM, Entire Season features Julie Andrews teaching about music and theater.Most appropriate forK-2

Miscellaneous Music Opportunities forANYage/stage: 
  • Pick your favorite musical and watch it together, discussing what you like and performance elements involved in the show. 
  • Listen to the radio! Now change stations to a different genre (from pop to country for example) and discuss the differences and preferences. 
  • Share YOUR favorite song, station, orband with your child and share why it’s yourfave! 
  • Call a grandparent andask them if they remember any songs that were sung tothemas a child! 
  • If you play an instrument and have access to it, share it with your child! 
  • Have your child sing you a song they’ve sung in the music room. 
  • Have your child take their favorite song and change the lyrics! 
  • Have your child create their own musical instrument out of found objects. 
  • Have your child add a simple ostinato to a song they already know.  An ostinato is arepeating rhythm pattern.  This can be donewithany body-percussion or found object oron acreated instrument.  (A simple example of ostinato is the pat-pat-clap part to Queen’sWe Will Rock You.)
