Old Ladies, Pumpkin Stew, and Den Halloween Bones

So, your child came home singing some spooky songs? Good!

Here is a brief recap over what we've been doing with the lower grades:

Kindergarten has been singing ghost sounds to get into their singing voices (OOOoooooooo). We also  have been singing songs like 5 Little Pumpkins, All the Leaves are Falling Down, and Shake Dem Halloween Bones to explore pitch (high and low sounds).

1st Grade has been exploring different sounds by adding instruments to the song "Skin and Bones" and book "The Little Old Lady that Was Not Afraid of Anything". Some classes also got to sing and move to Shake Den Halloween Bones (it's a blast).

2nd Grade has been learning about melody and accompaniment with "Pumpkin Stew". Students sang the song, added their own ingredients, and we also added other instrument parts using ostinatos, short repeating patterns.

3rd Grade is still working on recorder, but got to revisit some of the stories from 1st grade using their new instrument to add some of the sounds. The are also still working on their Recorder Karate and many have earned their white belts.

K-1 Tell a story using high voice (head voice) and low voice (chest voice) Gather some stuffed animals, toys, or puppets and make you own story. At least 1  character must have a high voice, like porky here: At least 1  character must have a low voice, like Slothy here: You can add as many characters as you want and even include siblings. Have fun with your story. March 17th E-Learning

Each week I will be posting a short musical lesson for each grade level. Please also check out the  Murdock E-Learning  post for other activities. Feel free to email me at Patrick.Hydo@cobbk12.org with any questions or concerns. Todays activities utilize the Chrome Music Lab experiments. Although they should work with any browser, I found on my iOS devices they work best in Chrome (of course). Each activity was chosen for a specific grade level, but students should be encouraged to explore. I'd love to see what the kids come up with. Please send screenshots or recordings to my email. All Grades Vocal Warm up Explore the  vocal oscillators . By clicking on one of the characters and moving up and down, you can make siren noises. E-Learning Rotation #5

Teach me a song you love. K-5 You are going to cover a song. "Covering" is when you play a song that someone else wrote. As much as I love to hear the songs you wrote yourself, save those for another day. Here is my cover of "Bastille Day" by the band Rush Choose a song, practice, perform, and record it. It doesn't have to be fancy (I like doing multitrack videos, you don't have to). There is a 3 minute maximum limit on the flip grid recordings. Post it on my Flipgrid  Here . or  You can always email it to me if you don't want to share with other students. You must: Perform the music by either singing or playing an instrument.
